We rode Amtrak's Empire Builder from Portland to Minneapolis this year for a family visit. Enjoy the photos!

Cole is excited about breakfast in the dining car! CJ prays that it's edible.

By dawn we were high up in the Rockies.

I had to run really fast to get this photo.
Okay, no I didn't.

Havre, Montana is a service stop for the train, so we got off to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air.

This mightly steam locomotive once pulled the Empire Builder for the Great Northern Railway.

The Great Plains in North Dakota are littered with ghost towns and abandoned farmsteads.

Minot, North Dakota is another service stop.

A special BNSF passenger train passed us in Minot.

This classic sightseer dome was part of the BNSF special.

More classic rolling stock of various vintages.
